Morocco set to kill 3 million stray dogs by poisoning them ahead of 2030 Football World Cup

2030 FIFA Football World Cup will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and the African country of Morocco. As part of its preparation for the World Cup, Morocco is planning to execute 30 lakhs stray dogs to make their cities ‘nicer’ for visitors coming for the tournament.

This is the first time ever that Morocco will host World Cup matches. As per the report in the British paper ‘The Sun’, the country has killed thousands of dogs already, and the number will rapidly rise ahead of the World Cup.

The International Animal Coalition said that the dogs in Morocco are poisoned with strychnine, a highly toxic, colourless, and bitter chemical used as a pesticide, particularly for killing small animals. The coalition said that the dogs are also being shot in the streets, or caught and transported to slaughter houses.

The footballing governing body FIFA is yet to comment on the matter.
