Telangana bans poultry coming from Andhra Pradesh after bird flu confirmation in East Godavari district

The state government of Telangana has banned all poultry coming from Andhra Pradesh over concerns of bird flu. Recently, a bird flu outbreak was confirmed in the East Godavari district. As per reports, Telangana has established 24 different check points to prevent poultry from Andhra crossing the state border.

The Andhra government has sealed a poultry farm in East Godavari district and declared a red zone. Around 1500 chickens have been culled. The outbreak was detected at the Ramakrishna Poultry Farm in the Kanuru Agraharam village. After the officials from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries confirmed the presence of H1N1 Avian Influenza virus, the culling order was given and an 1 km area around the farm was declared a red zone and a 10 km radius area has been marked as a surveillance zone. The district administration has banned the sale of eggs and chicken in the area in the meanwhile.
