Even before he won the 2024 Presidential elections, Donald Trump had made no secret of his desire to impose tariffs on goods from other nations in order to revive American manufacturing. Following his inauguration, he has kept his word as he announced tariffs on goods from Canada, China, and Mexico. Now, it seems he is also set to announce tariffs on goods from European Union. Notably, EU is a long standing ally of USA.
As per reports, Donald Trump told journalists that it will “definitely happen” with the European Union and possibly with the United Kingdom as well, when asked about imposing tariffs.
President Trump also said that Americans could feel some pain from the emerging trade war following the imposition of tariffs against America’s top three trade partners, but also said that Canada would “cease to exist” without its trade surplus with the US.
Notably, President Trump has also threatened to cut off funding to South Africa, citing concerns over the treatment of some people and land confiscation by the government.
