Miscreants try to capture a temple built by Dalits in Bihar

The village of Dulam Bigha in Bihar has become home to a temple dispute between Dalit families and a few miscreants. As per a report in Dainik Jagran, this dispute is seeing no signs of stopping.

As per the report, Dalit families of the village had pooled funds in order to make a grand temple of Maa Bhagwati. All had gone well and the pran prathista or the ceremony for consecrate the idol in the temple, was scheduled on 3rd June.

But then a village strongman named Parmeshwar Yadav forcefully broke the lock of the temple two days prior to the pran prathista and placed an idol of Radha Krishna inside it. As a result, the Dalit families reached the police station to lodge a complaint. In light of the police complaint, the station chief, BDO and circle officer reached the village and locked the temple. They later called the two sides to a meeting and tried to amicably settle the matter.

In many of the meetings which consequently took place, Parmeshwar Yadav and his representatives rarely reached on time while the representatives of the Dalits used to very punctually reach the meeting venue. As a result the matter continued to remain unsolved.

The administration which has been trying to solve the matter also inspected the issue on the day of Janmashtami. Now according to the media reports, the Circle Officer of Narhat in order to find a solution, had issued a notice to the two parties, asking them to be present in the police station on 10th September.

Even after the issuance of notice, nobody from Parmeshwar Yadav’s side turned up. Now the police claims that after consulting with the SDM, a meeting would be conducted in the village so as to finally find a solution.

This lock-down has meant that the Dalit families haven’t been able to use the temple for Puja and thus are becoming increasingly angry about the whole issue.
