From torn kurta to designer jacket, Rahul Gandhi’s journey as a fashionista

Usually donning a kurta and jeans or pyjama, sometimes torn, to break his elitist and privileged background, Gandhi has been known to take digs at Prime Minister Modi’s clothes. Very cleverly Gandhi termed the BJP as ‘suit-boot ki sarkar’ after Prime Minister Modi wore a designer jacket and scarf. Except, in most cases, Prime Minister Modi has auctioned off his clothes and donated the money raised for various causes, especially for education of girl child.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi reached Meghalaya yesterday to kick off the election campaign in the poll-bound state. That is where his ‘suit-boot’ jibe came back to haunt him.

He turned up wearing a jacket which social media users found to be very similar to a designer jacket from Burberry. Soon twitterati claimed to have found the product online, on the Bloomingdale website, where the jacket was listed at a cost of $995. Twitter users were quick to mock Rahul for the same.

People even pointed out the elitist mindset Congress has when it comes to Prime Minister Modi.

Of course, Rahul Gandhi’s fangirls immediately came to defend his fashion choices.
