The Congress party vehemently opposed the amended Land Acquisition bill moved by the NDA, but the record of Congress seems to be pathetic as far as payments for land acquisition is concerned. The residents of Bomja village had not received payments for land acquired by the defence forces for setting up garrisons five years ago.
The defence ministry has released 40.8 crores of funds for paying the amount to residents of Bomja, whose 200 acres of land was acquired in 2013. The villagers were given the cheques ranging from 6.73 crores to 1,09 crores by the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu. Mr Khandu also mentioned that the state was seeing growth and development because of the proactiveness of Narendra Modi government at the centre.
Prior to Tawang, Hiware Bazar was the richest village in India where there were 60 millionaire families out of 235 families in the village. Hiware Bazar is in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. Bomja displaces Hiware Bazar as all 31 families in the village are now crorepatis.
The overnight change in Bomja village shows how the NDA government’s commitment to the development of Northeast and fulfilling commitments regarding dues to people from whom it has acquired land.
