Everyone wants ‘New India’ but Congress wants their own version of India – PM walks Rajya Sabha down the memory lane

Rahul Gandhi continues to lie

In a speech during the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s address, the Prime Minister made some stinging remarks on the kind of India that INC wants. He was referring to opposition’s criticism of the idea of ‘New India’ mentioned in the President’s speech.

He said that INC does not want the ‘New India’ but ‘Gandhi’s India.’ First, he remarked that he also wants Gandhi’s India:

“Even I want Gandhi’s India because Gandhi proposed dissolution of the Congress party after independence was achieved. Congress Mukt Bharat is not Modi’s idea. It was Gandhi’s idea. We are just trying to follow his footsteps”.

Later on, he went on to list instances from history which were part of Congress’s India in his speech. He added that Congress wanted to return to those days which were full of corruption, lawlessness and rioting.

The Prime Minister said :

“Do you want an India of army jeep scam. Do you want an India of Bofors scam? Do you want an India of Emergency period where Morarji Desai, Jayprakash Narayan and lakhs of Indians were jailed? Do you want a Bharat where thousands of innocent Sikhs are slaughtered when a ‘huge tree’ falls? You don’t want a new India. you want an India where administration bows down to accused in ‘tandoor murder*’ case and other leaders. You [Congress] want an India where a person responsible for Bhopal gas tragedy is allowed to escape from the country in a plane”.

The Prime Minister took the Congress party which had criticised the concept of New India by reminding them of the kind of India that was existing under the rule of their party he even revived an old, forgotten case where he probably referred to the infamous tandoor murder case in which Sushil Sharma (the then Youth Congress President) was accused of chopping his wife’s body and cooking it in a Tandoor oven.
