In the world’s largest recruitment drive, Indian Railways to offer 90,000 jobs

Indian Railways has announced that it will be seeking applications to fill 89,409 posts for lower lever staffers including Loco Pilots and Technicians. In what is being hailed as one of the world’s largest recruitment processes, the Indian Railways will hire Group C level I and level II employees.

Online applications are being sought for the computer-based test which is likely to be held in April/May 2018. The recruitment drive is aimed at hiring basic level staffers and technicians for the capacity improvement and performance of Indian Railways. Group C level 1 (earlier known as Group D) jobs include that of Track Maintainer, Pointsman, helper, Gateman etc while Group C level II jobs include technical jobs like Assistant Loco Pilots and technicians including blacksmiths and carpenters.

The recruitment process will be entirely online as there will be no interviews for Group C level jobs. the basic qualification required for class  10th pass and certificate of Industrial Training Institute (ITI). According to reports 26,502 people will be hired for Group C level II jobs while 62, 907 staffers will be hired for Group C level I jobs.

It is notable here that capacity improvement was the key focus of Railway Budget this year and the highest ever capital expenditure of 1,48,528 crores was announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Union Budget.
