Media can’t seem to stick to facts : Congress goon and civil servant called ‘BJP leaders’

After high octane drama in the national capital yesterday with the Delhi Chief Secretary (CS), Anshu Pratap, accusing AAP MLAs, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, of hurling abuses and beating him up, matters escalated quickly after Aam Aadmi Party accused the CS of being a BJP agent.

Soon enough, some media houses started referring to the CS as a BJP leader.

While the story was from the agency feed of PTI, the headline was given by Economic Times.

After being pointed out on social media, Economic Times changed the headline to ‘Delhi babus to boycott all ministerial meetings until Kejriwal apologises for assault on chief secretary’.

Economic Times wasn’t the only publication that addressed someone as BJP leader wrongly. India Today, too, addressed the Congress MLA aide who tried to set a government office on fire, as BJP leader.

So much is the rush of pinning the blame on BJP that India Today even referred to Haris Nalapad, son of Congress leader, who brutally assaulted a man over a trivial argument in a pub, as BJP MLA.

It is amusing to see how media gets away with such blunders and then cries foul on freedom of the press while leaving fact checking to readers. Readers beware.
