India’s premier military R&D agency, DRDO, has successfully tested the combat unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), Rustom-2, on Monday at Chitradurga, Karnataka.

They said in a statement, “DRDO successfully flew its Rustom 2 today at its Aeronautical Test Range(ATR) at Chalakere at Chitradurga. This flight assumes significance due to the fact that this is the first flight in user configuration with higher power engine. All parameters were normal. Secretary Deptt. of Defence (R&D) & Chairman DRDODr. S. Christopher, Director General of Aeronautical System Dr CP Ramanarayanan, DG Electronics & Communication SystemsMs. J Manjula along with senior scientists witnessed the flight and congratulated Rustom team.”

Rustom-2 is the latest addition to the Rustom lines of unmanned aerial vehicles which includes Rustom-1, Rustom-H and Rustom-C. The drone will be used by all three wings of the Indian Armed Forces primarily for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations. The drone has an endurance duration of 24 hours. The drone has been developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) of the DRDO in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. and Bharat Electronics Ltd.
