The Supreme Court on Friday has issued a notice to the Delhi Police in connection to the PIL submitted by Subramanian Swamy on the death of the wife of Shashi Tharoor, Sunanda Pushkar. Initially, the Delhi High Court had dismissed the petition deeming it to be a “Political Interest Litigation”. Swamy had then approached the apex bench against the decision of the High Court. Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Amitava Roy have asked Swamy to satisfy them over the maintainability of the case.
Ishakaran Bhandari, a close aide of Subramanian Swamy, says that the notice to the Delhi Police is significant as the Police now has to explain their conduct thus far with regards to the case and their failure to submit the final report within 8 weeks as they had told the High Court on September 21 last year. The Court had then asked Delhi Police to file an affidavit within 2 weeks. According to Ishkaran Bhandari, Delhi Police will find it difficult to satisfy the Court regarding their conduct.

Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in a hotel room at Delhi on January 17, 2014. Earlier, AIIMS had confirmed that hers was an unnatural death.
