A missing Hindu girl from Karimganj, Assam has been traced to Dhaka, Bangladesh by the Police. Mausumi Das (21) was a student of Rabindra Sadan Girls’ College had been missing since March 12. The girl, who was assumed to have been kidnapped, has stated that she travelled to Bangladesh with one Bangladeshi citizen Badsah of her own free will. She has since then converted to Islam after marriage and is now known as Fatima. She has apparently refused to return to India.
The Police officials while addressing the media have said, “The investigating officer along with a team had started an inquiry in Silchar where the expo was organised and as per information their next destination was Agartala. Also, there was an involvement of a Bangladeshi citizen so we made a lookout circular through the Bureau of immigration where all the routes of exit were on alert.” They added, “We were also in touch with the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka seeking support from the country.”
Since then, a video has supposedly emerged where the girl appears to be saying that she travelled to Bangladesh of her own free will. She was quoted as saying, “I have come to Bangladesh on my own terms and no one has kidnapped me. I have run away from India and want to stay here with my husband.” She added, “Bangladesh is a nice country and I do not want to return back India. I am not a kid that I would be lured. This is totally my decision.”
The girl’s family had initially filed a missing report with the Police after she had gone missing. She has admitted to travelling to Bangladesh without a valid passport.
