Earlier this month, two petrol bombs were hurled at the BJP office in Coimbatore. No damages were reported in the incident. A member of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam was taken into custody by the Police after the incident. The attack was perceived to be in response to BJP leader H Raja’s comments on Periyar.

The attack took place at around 3.00 a.m. on Wednesday while the leader was asleep with his family. The car parked outside the residence was damaged but no one has been injured in the incident. A day before, another statue of Periyar was found vandalized in the Pudukottai district of Tamil Nadu. The attack on Nandakumar’s residence is suspected to be an act of retaliation as well.

Nandakumar said, “We suspect the role behind in the incident is by the members of an outfit supporting Periyar for taking a revenge for vandalising the Periyar statue in Pudukottai.” A CRPF personnel was arrested for Periyar statue vandalisation earlier.
