The Indian Railways has sanctioned a quadrupling project worth Rs 492.87 crores which will oversee the construction of two additional lines between Bengaluru Cantt and Whitefield stations. The Ministry of Railways made this announcement in a press release yesterday.
Railway minister Piyush Goyal has tweeted informing about the highlights of this project. He has mentioned that this project will benefit approximately 62,000 commuters per day.

The two additional lines will cover a 25 km stretch in the IT hub of the city. It includes six stations namely Bengaluru Cantt, Bengaluru East, Bypanahalli, Krishnarajapuram, Hoodi and Whitefield. The daily commute in these areas is largely chaotic and marred by constant traffic congestions. A considerable population in the city and outsiders travel to these stations every day to reach the hundreds of IT companies that Bengaluru is famous for. The project, which is aimed to be completed within two years is meant to reduce traffic woes and facilitate easy transportations.
The Bengaluru and Yesvantpur railway stations are at present witnessing 146 and 94 trains running from them respectively. Out of these 122 are suburban trains used by daily commuters. The proposed new lines will be a great help to the commuters.
The press release also added that in the last one and a half year itself, 26 suburban services have been introduced along with 7 long distance services in the Bengaluru area. It also added that project works to the capacity of almost 1500 crores has been sanctioned for line capacity expansion in and around Bengaluru area.
