Read why #BoycottTrivago was trending on Twitter

Last evening, a tweet of Abhinav Kumar, the country head of travel websites aggregator Trivago, popularly known as ‘Trivago Guy’, went viral, following which he received a lot of backlash. Kumar had tweeted praises for propaganda video creator and Aam Aadmi Party supporter, Dhruv Rathee, following which it came to everyone’s notice that Kumar is also an Aam Aadmi Party supporter. While democracy is all about freedom to support and criticise any political leader you want, Kumar’s support for Kejriwal drew a lot of jokes since AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal himself has ended up being one with recent drama.

Kumar, in his tweet, had complimented Rathee for ‘keeping citizens informed on the real issues’.

While Rathee’s videos, which are nothing short of conspiracy theories, are not worth dignifying with a response, this tweet led to twitterati digging out his older tweets, many of which were anti-Modi and made people angry.

Soon, Twitter users decided to boycott and downrate Trivago app.

But not before he was made a butt of all jokes.

While most were angry with the country head’s views, and not just the annoying ads, many even seemed to have grievances with the app and website.

Soon enough, many users wrote negative reviews in the app store.

Following the backlash, the Trivago guy had deactivated his account, but is back on Twitter now.
