The AIADMK has ended its association with a columnist and a sub-editor over a pro-BJP article which was published in its party mouthpiece Namadhe Puratchi Thalaivi Amma. The article was written by the columnist named Thirumalai on Sunday, supposedly hinted at an alliance between the BJP and the AIADMK and asserted that both the parties should function as a double-barrelled gun.
Such an article was soon picked up by the media which termed it as the AIADMK swearing by its ties with the BJP. The reports also claimed that the article heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This, though, hasn’t sat well with the AIADMK, which along with the author has also sacked a sub-editor named Paneerselvam for publishing the article without taking proper permission. Its editor Marudhu Alaguraj claims to have been abroad at the time of the article’s publication.
Besides firing its employees, the party also issued a clarification that the article has created confusion within people’s mind, while asserting that the party won’t seek or find allies for contesting elections. The clarification also notified that the news regarding any such alliance won’t be published in a newspaper but would be decided by the party’s high-level committee.
Current Lok Sabha’s deputy speaker and AIADMK leader M Thambidurai too has jumped into the matter by claiming that there was no double-barrelled gun, with the parties functioning independently.
