According to BJP, Murmu was BJP’s nominee for the Panchayat polls from the area and blamed Mamata Banerjee led TMC (Trinamool Congress) for the attack. According to reports, the TMC supporters launched an attack when BJP men went to the Raniganj Block Development Office (BDO) to pick up nomination papers for the panchayat polls.

As per police, Murmu had left his house at around 10 am when he was injured in violence near BDO office. BJP leaders have accused the TMC supporters of the violence which led to his death. In another incident, BJP leaders have accused that TMC-backed goons had fired guns and hurled bombs in North Dinajpur.

Incidentally, the Congress too has accused the TMC of not letting opposition candidates file their nomination papers. As per West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the dates of the rural polls were announced suddenly, so that opposition parties could not file their nominations. Chowdhury has also alleged that the election has been reduced to a farce.

Another senior Congress leader of Bengal claimed that they won’t be able to field candidates in all the seats for polls, both in the Gram Panchayat and Zila Panchayat elections.
