Non bailable warrants issued to Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi

The Nirav Modi bank fraud had rocked the country has been in the eye of the storm. In a fresh development in the case, the CBI has issued a non-bailable warrant has been issued against both Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.

The Congress party has been accusing the government of assisting Nirav Modi and making this a political issue in the run up to Karnataka assembly polls. Even though the Nirav Modi scam has landed squarely on the Congress’ doorstep and the 20:80 Gold Scheme sanctioned by P Chidambaram benefitted 13 companies including Mehul Choksi’s firm.

According to India Today, Allahabad overseas branch officer are also under the radar of investigating agencies. Some of the officers have been summoned for questioning in the case according to reports.

The move taken by CBI today indicates that it is intent on nabbing the absconding businessmen. However, it remains to be seen if this can actually result in the arrest of Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi.
