Karnataka BJP MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar today took to Twitter to slam Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah for their comments on rising sexual crimes against children in the country in the wake of the recent Kathua rape and murder case while turning a blind eye at the crime against children back home in poll-bound Karnataka.

He was commenting on the Congress President’s recent statements blaming the central government for inaction and delay over rising crimes against women and children. He drew Rahul and Siddaramaiah’s attention to Karnataka’s status at the nationwide statistics of sexual crimes against children.
He slammed the Congress party’s attempt to politicise the recent rape cases and stated that crimes against children are the most horrific crimes and should not be used as opportunities for political point scoring.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar also shared an earlier tweet which represented Karnataka state’s statistics for sex crimes against children. The data was from his presentation at an event organised by TISS titled ‘Protect Our Children’ in December 2017, where he was the keynote speaker.

The data showed Karnataka’s dismal track record in preventing sex crimes against children. His tweet showed that Karnataka ranks 4thin highest number of cases registered under the POCSO Act and ranks 2nd nationwide in cases registered under the ITP (Immoral Traffic Prevention) Act. He also highlighted that the tolerance towards prostitution of children is higher in Karnataka than other states.
