On Friday, India woke up to the news of gold medal win by Sanjita Chanu in the women’s 53 kg weightlifting event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

She set a new CWG record with a lift of 84kg in snatch and then lifted 108 in clean & jerk.
Yesterday, Mirabai Chanu, from Manipur won India’s first gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in women’s 48 kg weightlifting category. P Gururaja bagged a silver medal in the 56 kg men’s weightlifting category.
In badminton, Saina Nehwal showed total dominance against her Sri Lankan opponent and snatched victory whereas in the men’s game Kidambi Srikanth has also won his first match. India also defeated Sri Lanka in first match in women’s table tennis.
While the games have had a promising start, it didn’t pan out that well for women’s hockey where Indian team was defeated by Wales 2-3.
