Congress General Secretary and former chief minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot may have just revealed Congress’ modus operandi of Congress as a run-up to the 2019 General Elections. If Ashok Gehlot is to be believed, visiting temples is a tactic to ‘influence voters’.

Gehlot was referring to Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the grand temple at Janakpur Dham, Nepal, the birthplace of Sita and inaugurating the Janakpur-Ayodhya-Janakpur bus service yesterday. This town houses Nepal’s biggest temple, the Janki temple, built for its Princess Sita who married Lord Ram at this very town.
Perhaps that explains the ‘soft Hindutva’ approach Congress took by sending Rahul Gandhi on temple runs during the run-up to Gujarat elections as well as Karnataka elections. However, the approach kind of backfired back in Gujarat when Rahul Gandhi declared himself ‘non-Hindu’ while visiting the Somnath temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.
Interestingly, as Karnataka geared up to vote, Rahul Gandhi visited the temple, church and dargah in Karnataka. So by Gehlot’s logic, Rahul Gandhi visited the religious places to ‘influence voters’. Some strategy, eh?
