In a first, 4 IRS officers arrested together by the CBI under bribery charges

As per reports, The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested four deputy commissioner ranked officials of the Customs department in Mumbai along with two others for allegedly demanding Rs 50 lakh from an importer to clear his consignment.

The arrested accused have been identified as Dy-Commissioner are — Mukesh Meena, Rajeev Kumar Singh, Sudarshan Meena, Sandeep Yadav, Superintendent  Manish Singh and Private Person (Custom House Agent) Nilesh Singh in an alleged bribery case.

This would be the first such case where four IRS officers have been arrested together in the country.

CBI laid a trap and first caught two Deputy Commissioners and one private person red-handed, accepting Rs 5 lakh as the first instalment of bribe. Later they discovered the involvement of two more Deputy Commissioners and a Superintendent during the investigation.

Searches were conducted by CBI sleuths at the official and residential premises of the accused. The arrested accused are slated to be produced before the Competent Court in Mumbai.
