Delhi’s Patiala House court today has issued summon to abusive journalist Swati Chaturvedi for making derogatory comments against BJP spokesperson Tajinder Bagga. Bagga’s lawyer Alakh Alok Srivatsav today informed that the court summons issued are pertaining to offences punishable under sections 499, 500 and 501 of the Indian Penal Code.

Tajinder Bagga had filed the criminal defamation case against Chaturvedi after she posted an offensive tweet against him in March 2017. The Patiala House Court had recorded Bagga’s statement on the matter and had set a later date for further hearing.

The court summon states that at this stage the complainant (Bagga) has presented sufficient evidence for the court to form an opinion that by words intended to be read and published, the accused (Chaturvedi) has made imputations upon the character of the complainant intending to harm having reasons to believe that such imputations will harm the reputation of the complainant who is a public figure himself.
It is notable here that Chaturvedi is not new to abusing on Twitter. She is also known for filing fake stories and carried out targetted harassment. Chaturvedi is associated with the leftist propaganda website ‘The Wire’.
