After Rahul Gandhi, ‘UP ka ladka’ Akhilesh Yadav dabbles with Soft Hindutva

After Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Temple Run‘ spree ahead of the Gujarat Assembly elections last year, it appears his fellow ‘UP ka ladka’, former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, has decided to adopt a soft Hindutva approach as well.

In his tweet on Thursday, he proclaimed that everyone has to come together to protect cows and the Ganga river while insinuating that the BJP only uses the issues for electoral gains and that people no longer have any hope from them. In the past, Akhilesh Yadav has asserted that everyone had the right to lead life the way they chose to and nobody should interfere with it while daring the BJP to ban the export of beef. During his Chief Minister, his government passed an order to ban the slaughter of cows and illegal transport of milch animals but was never implemented strictly.

It appears that the recent electoral setbacks have had a profound impact in the manner the secular parties conduct themselves. The Congress party had even proclaimed Rahul Gandhi to be a ‘Janeu dhaari Hindu’ after the controversy at Somnath Temple where the Congress President had allegedly declared himself a Non-Hindu. Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav’s newfound ally, BSP’s mayor had suggested the cancellation of the ancient Nauchandi Mela because she believed it will disturb Muslims during Ramzan.
