Eye-witness in the ‘inter-faith’ couple passport row alleges abduction attempt

The controversial case of ‘inter-faith’ couple‘s passport case took a turn when a witness, Kuldeep Singh who had come out in support of the passport officer Vikas Mishra, alleged abduction. Kuldeep claimed he was kidnapped by some people and brought near the Indo-Nepal border in Lakhimpur Kheri, from where he managed to escape.

Vikas Mishra allegedly misbehaved with the ‘inter-faith‘ couple at the Lucknow Passport office where he was accused of asking the Muslim husband to convert to Hinduism and yelling at the wife when she refused to change her name in the passport.

As per reports, Singh was kidnapped at gunpoint by at least three unidentified men. Recounting the incident, Gola circle officer, Abhishek Pratap said, Singh came to the Sansarpur police outpost at around 8 p.m on Saturday. There Singh informed the concerned authority that at around 2 p.m he was on his way to the post office in Lucknow from his house in Jankipuram area when three men stepped out of an old model Scorpio and asked Singh to get in the car at gunpoint. Singh claims he was drugged and lost consciousness, but he managed to escape once he regained consciousness.

Lucknow Police has taken up the matter for further investigation.
