Many North Eastern states are struggling with massive floods. The situation has worsened in Assam, Tripura and Manipur where many rivers are flowing above danger marks and several villages, roads and railway tracks have been submerged.

As per latest reports, 23 people have died so far and 6 people have died in the last 24 hours. Many incidents of flash floods and even landslides have reportedly cut off vital transport routes and in many areas crops and livestock have been swept off.
According to a report in India Today, Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Karimganj and Cacher districts of Assam and Dhalai, Unakoti, North Tripura and Khowai districts of Tripura have been reeling under torrential rains and floods since many days.
The report states that the Indian Railways has taken up major relief and assistance work in flood-hit areas. People in several areas have been taking shelter in railway stations and the Railways have provided hundreds of bottles of bottled water, food packets, baby food and other relief items.

The North Eastern Frontier Railways have been providing motor trolleys to rescue stranded people and helping to distribute medical supplies and relief materials.

In the Silchar station in Assam, the railways have placed 15 spare coaches for people to take shelter. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has reported as on June 16, they had evacuated 407 persons from flood-hit areas in Assam and a total of 3629 people had been rescued and taken to safer areas in Tripura. Over 5000 people have reportedly been taking shelter in relief camps in Tripura.
