On basis of a video clip that has gone viral on social media, Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested a ‘Maulvi’ of a local dargah for allegedly hanging an 8-year-old boy upside down and physically assaulting him.

The accused is identified as Mushtaq Ahmed Dhar and further investigation is underway.
The video is reportedly from a dargah in Baramullah, Jammu and Kashmir.
This is not the first time crimes against minors perpetrated by ‘Maulvis’ have been reported from the valley. Earlier, a Maulvi was booked for allegedly raping scores of minor boys under the pretext of summoning djinns and driving away ‘evil eye’. In September last year, Supreme Court had accepted the appeal against the acquittal of Kashmiri ‘Peer’, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, who was accused of raping four minor girls. Recently, a Madarsa teacher was held in Kashmir for sexually assaulting a minor student.
