Congress leader and Karnataka’s minority affairs minister – B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan has decided to support All India Muslim Personal’s Law board’s plan to open Sharia courts in all districts of the country, Republic TV has reported.
Just this morning it was reported by us that the Muslim law board had decided to set up the sharia courts (also known as Darul-Qaza). AIMPLB’s Zafaryab Jilani had claimed that under this proposal, the matters would be resolved under Sharia laws.
It has been speculated that there are about 300 Sharia courts running in the country, which might increase to 712 if AIMPLB gets it way. Out of these 300 courts, the Muslim law boards already runs about 50 such courts in the country.
While the BJP has mounted a stiff opposition against this plan, Congress leader Zameer Ahmed has decided to sing a completely different tune.
As reported by Republic TV, the Congress minister has claimed that it is a good step which will help resolve “minor family disputes”. He also claimed that Shariat law is also prevalent in Bangalore and would help spread awareness and unity among Muslims.
Incidentally, the Congress leader was also in the news recently after he threw a fit after he was allotted an Innova as his official car, which he felt was of a “low level” as he had always travelled in “big cars” since childhood. Following this, the Kumaraswamy government decided to indulge him and allotted him a car of his choice.
He had also courted controversy when he demanded that a Haj Bhawan which accommodates Haj pilgrims, be renamed after Tipu Sultan. Following a strong protest by the BJP he the backtracked by claiming that it was merely a request.
