A Muslim mob comprising of at least 200 people stormed the house of a Hindu man after he eloped with a Muslim girl, PTI has reported.

According to the report, the Hindu boy and Muslim girl had eloped on 29 June, following which the girl’s family had demanded that their daughter is sent back to them. This issue seems to have continued escalating which culminated in the girl’s family and her community members storming the boy’s house in Sanjeli village of Gujarat’s Dahod district on 21 July.

As a result of the attack, the boy’s father Prakash Bhoi filed a complaint with the Sanjeli police station. According to Sanjeli’s sub-inspector S N Bariya, the mob was armed with sticks and sharp weapons following which they set his multi-utility vehicle afire. The mob also burnt their neighbour’s bike.

Besides committing arson, the mob has also been accused of stoning, ransacking and looting the boy’s house. The mob is also believed to have stolen ornaments from their home.

As a result of the attack, Dahod’s Superintendent of Police has assured that the situation is under control and they were trying to trace the couple. The report has claimed that until now four people have been arrested namely Razak Baandi, Irshad Baandi, Saleha Baandi and Rashida Baandi, and efforts are being made to trace the remaining accused. The accused have been booked under sections pertaining to dacoity, rioting, arson and trespassing.

Incidentally, this isn’t the only time Hindus have had to bear the brunt of the Muslim community for having a relationship with a Muslim girl.

We had recently reported how a Dalit youth was killed for being in a relationship with a Muslim girl, following which the Muslim accused had boasted to the victim’s brother about killing him.

Besides this, in February a Hindu boy named Ankit Saxena was brutally murdered by the family of the Muslim girl he loved in Delhi. The family had reportedly taken this step after Ankit didn’t give in to their pressure to call off this relationship.

Just a few months before Ankit’s murder, a Hindu boy was murdered in similar fashion in Bihar for falling in love with a girl from Muslim family. Such a disapproval from the Muslim girl’s family against having such relationships has also resulted in the Hindu-Muslim couple choosing to kill themselves rather than parting ways.

Unfortunately, such violent attacks by Muslim mobs have also been witnessed when a Hindu boy was merely “caught” talking to a Muslim girl, who was his acquaintance.
