A case has been filed against Tharoor for ‘hurting religious sentiments and insulting the constitution’. As per reports, a case under Section 153A/295A of the Indian Penal Code and Section 2 of The Prevention Of Insults To National Honour Act, 1971 has been filed by a Kolkata based lawyer, Sumeet Choudhury against Shashi Tharoor.

Recently, Tharoor had made a controversial statement that if BJP comes to power in 2019 again, it will turn India into Hindu Pakistan. Though Congress and its leaders are known for their derogatory remarks and false equivalences, they also have the tendency to stand by defending their statements with impunity. Tharoor has not only stood firm to his statement but also refused to apologise for the same. Not only that, even the Congress party did not openly condemn the statement but gave an excuse that what Tharoor said was in his personal capacity.

The petitioner has said that Tharoor’s remark was an insult to the constitution and was aimed at creating conflict and religious divide. Ironically, Tharoor has authored a book ‘Why I am a Hindu’, which intends to push Congress’ stand on ‘soft Hindutva’, shows how his understanding of Hinduism is at the same level as a beauty pageant contestant’s understanding of world peace.
