The Chairman of Shia Waqf Board Waseem Rizvi has stated that killing of cows is ‘haram’ (forbidden) in Islam and it should stop. He has added that Muslims should stop eating beef. He has also called for stricter laws against cow smugglers.

Referring to recent incidents of cow smugglers being attacked by a mob, Rizvi added that as security cannot be deployed everywhere, such instances of violence will stop if there are strict punishments against cattle smuggling.
Rizvi was speaking over the statement by RSS leader Indresh Kumar. Kumar has stated recently that mob lynching incidents, like that of Rakbar Khan in Alwar, Rajasthan will not happen if cow slaughter is stopped.

Discussing Indresh Kumar’s statement, Rizvi has added further that he thinks Indresh Kumar has a point and religious sentiments should not be hurt. He added that lynching would stop when cow slaughter is stopped. He also stated that people should not kill an animal which is given the status of the mother by a community.
Shia Board chief Rizvi has also been supportive of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The Shia Waqf board has deposed in the Supreme Court that the disputed structure at Ayodhya was built after destroying a temple. Rizvi has been critical of ‘extremist’ Sunnis and has claimed in the past that they are propagating radicalism in India. Recently, in a video, he had criticised fundamentalists for trying to spread radicalism in India and had added that Muslims who keep beard without a moustache are fundamentalists.
Controversy over mob lynching has erupted after a man in Rajasthan’s Alwar died after allegedly being thrashed by a mob. The man, Rakbar Khan was allegedly a cattle smuggler. Cattle smuggling has been a menace in many parts of India and there are several instances where cattle smugglers have attacked and even killed the cattle owners. There are also recent cases where the cattle smugglers have attacked the security forces too.
