The Kerala police on Wednesday arrested a 20-year-old BA Arabic Student named Muhammed on charges of murdering an SFI activist, The Hindu has reported.
Muhammed a student of Maharaja College, is said to be the college President of Campus Front of India – a student arm of radical Islamist organisation PFI. He was arrested while travelling in a train near Mangalapuram.
As reported by us, Abhimanyu – a student leader of the CPM was stabbed to death on the campus of Maharaja college by members of the radical Islamist outfit’s student arm. This attack was a result of a dispute between the two student groups over wall writings.
Following the crime, the police arrested Adil, a member of Campus front of India, and four top leaders of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), which is the political arm of the PFI. The police suspected that these SDPI cadres were responsible for the murder of the student activist and harbouring the murder accused.
Now The Hindu report has claimed that following the murder Muhammed had escaped to Goa via Kannur to initially take shelter in a Mosque. He had later contacted the leadership of PFI to shift to a new hiding place.
As reported by Indian Express, IGP of Kochi Range – Vijay Sakhare has detailed Muhammed’s role in the murder. As per the IGP, Muhammed had called members of PFI and SDPI to attack Abhimanyu, with the police now searching for the accused who did the actual stabbing.
Following his arrest, Muhammed was interrogated throughout the day in Kochi. As confessed by him, the Campus Front was adamant about putting up graffiti on the campus walls but faced resistance from the SFI activists. As a result, it was reportedly decided that they won’t cede the wall to SFI at any cost, which resulted in a violent conflict.
