A self-proclaimed Islamic scholar who is also an alumnus of Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University [pdf], Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qasmi lost his cool live on television while debating on the triple talaq bill and violently hit another panellist.

In the heat of the moment during the debate, it can be seen the maulana beat up a fellow panellist, Farah Faiz, one of the petitioners in the Supreme Court against triple talaq, and he had to be physically restrained from continuing to hit her.
In the video, it can be seen that the Maulana is hitting the woman and using abusive words against her. Maulana is also a member of All India Personal Law Board and former spokesperson of enthusiast Darul Uloom Deoband, which is best known for issuing ‘fatwas’ like CCTV cameras and dancing and music being un-Islamic.
Following the violence, Qasmi was taken into custody by the police from the studio for his behaviour.

Qasmi has been very vocal in his support of triple talaq and has said that triple talaq valid but the ‘misuse’ should not be allowed.
