Clashes erupt in Saharanpur between two Muslim groups over animal slaughter, Police arrest 4

As per reports, clashes erupted between two groups from the minority community at Choubara village in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. A bike was also set on fire by one of the disgruntled groups and the situation in the area is said to have turned tense.

The Police reached the spot as soon as it received information about the clashes. The Police has reportedly arrested two members of each group and the situation is said to have returned to normal.

As per reports, one group wanted to sacrifice an animal on the occasion of Eid in an empty plot which belonged to one Arshad. Arshad took offence at that and an argument broke out between them after which Arshad allegedly gave wrong information to the Police that a cow was being slaughtered at his empty plot.

The other party took offence at Arshad for getting the Police involved and matters escalated quickly after that. The Police has reportedly decided to take action against Arshad for vitiating the atmosphere by deliberately giving false information to the Police.

Animals have often inspired violent incidents between groups, often under bizarre circumstances. On one particular occasion in 2017, violence had erupted between the children of two brothers over the grazing of a goat leading to the death of one of them.
