Another allegations bites the dust: SPG denies Rahul Gandhi’s ‘baseless and devoid of facts’ claims

Congress president Rahul Gandhi

Continuing with his mostly baseless attacks on NDA government, Congress party president had claimed that government wanted to put RSS people in SPG. While speaking at an event at Siri Fort auditorium in New Delhi, he had said that one SPG officer had come to him and said that he was given a list of RSS people to be appointed in SPG. Rahul Gandhi had claimed that the officer had refused this order and resigned from his post instead.

Today ministry of home affairs has issued a press release denying this allegation. The ministry has informed that they talked to the officer that Rahul Gandhi was referring to, and that officer denied having any such discussion with Rahul Gandhi ever. As Rahul Gandhi is SPG protectee, that officer did interact with Gandhi, but he never talked about the appointment of new officers, or reason of his resignation. The press release states that comment made by Rahul Gandhi is “baseless, devoid of fact”, and also it is unfortunate because such a statement is made by an SPG protected person.

Clarification issued by Home Ministry

This was one of the most outrageous allegations made by Rahul Gandhi because SPG commandos can’t be appointed by some list sent from the top. SPG commandos are selected after a rigorous selection from the best the best in various police forces. Also, a compromise in selection in SPG commandos will amount to a compromise in the selection of the Prime Minister. Rahul Gandhi’s insinuation would mean that RSS was trying to compromise the security of Narendra Modi which would be an outlandish claim in itself.
