PM Modi hails the contribution of corporates, calls for channeling their resources for social development

Prime Minister Modi, while addressing a townhall of chiefs and employees of technology companies and startups, said that he does not believe in the culture of criticising industry and corporates, he believes them to be pro-active in extending hands of help towards nation building, reports narrate.

“In our country, the general image is to abuse businessmen, industrialists. I don’t know why it is so but it has become a fashion. This is not a line of thought I agree with,”  PM Modi said.

PM Modi was launching his new initiative of Self4Society, which is aimed at channeling resources towards social causes, by harnessing talent present at corporate sector, through their technology, skills and HR resources. As many as 85 IT companies which employ 2 million people have participated in the initiative.

“We have seen today, in this townhall programme, how leading IT corporates are doing excellent social work, urging their employees to contribute to the society,” he added.

In July this year, PM Modi while attending the ceremony of investment projects in Lucknow, had emphasized the importance of industrialists, and their contribution to nation building. He had made it clear, he was not scared to be seen with them, as his conscience was clear. PM Modi had equated contribution by industrialist and farmers as same. He also had called out the hypocrisy of opposition for taking benefits from bigwig industrialists from the back door and criticizing them in public.

PM Modi also appreciated citizens for honestly contributing towards the success of the nation, by paying taxes, after reports came to fore regarding 80% rise in income tax returns in the last four years. He said that it was not fear of punishment but commitment to serve the country, that urged so many IT returns.

He also asked youngsters to usher country new ideas like alternative energy, to tackle oil price rise and asked to reach and make farmers aware of technologies like drip-irrigation, which can enhance agriculture manifolds, by conserving resources like water.

At the town hall, IT companies like Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra and Mindtree showcased the social transformation efforts they have undertaken and pledged to support ‘self4society’ initiative.
