When ‘anti-corruption crusader’ met the ‘Raja’ of 2G spectrum scam

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who has been fighting the holy war on corruption, today met DMK President MK Stalin along with MP Kanimozhi and former A. Raja, both of whom were acquitted in 2G spectrum case in December last year.

When the judgement acquitting Kanimozhi and A Raja was pronounced, Kejriwal was quite upset at the acquittal and had wondered whether the CBI had messed up the case, intentionally?

During the launch of actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan’s new political outfit, Corruption-warrior Kejriwal had urged voters to not vote for ‘corrupt’ DMK and AIADMK.

Reminder: MK Stalin is president of DMK and his sister, MP Kanimozhi was acquitted in 2G spectrum case.

The irony of this was not lost on Twitter users who pointed it out.

Stalin, amongst other things, reportedly even suggested that Kejriwal and Congress should let go of their differences and join hands for the anti-NDA alliance for the upcoming general elections.

The meeting between the leaders come a day before the poll results will be announced in five states – Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Mizoram and Telangana and hours before the joint opposition meeting. Kejriwal, who till now has been religiously snubbed by Congress and its allies, is expected to participate in the meeting for the first time.

In the 20 minute-long meeting, it is learnt that Stalin pleaded for Opposition unity. According to reports, he asked Kejriwal to drop his adversarial stance towards Congress and to join hands with Opposition to construct an anti-BJP platform. Except, joining hands with Congress would mean Kejriwal, in his own words, joining hands with BJP’s ‘B team’.

But if Kejriwal is true to his words, he would probably stand by his promise that he will not form an alliance with either Congress or BJP ‘under any circumstances’.

Despite his very vocal anti-Modi stand and his attempts at being invited back into the buddy-group, Kejriwal has not been able to claw his way back into the ‘United Opposition’. Perhaps today’s meet would be the one ticket to being a groupie again.
