Gujarat government waives off rural electricity bills

The BJP government in Gujarat led by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday announced that it will waive off electricity bills of connection holders in rural areas amounting worth Rs.650 crore.

According to the reports, Gujarat Energy Minister Saurabh Patel said that the government has decided to waive off Rs. 650 crore pending electricity bills which will benefit nearly 6.22 lakh connection holders in rural areas across the state.

Minister Saurabh Patel added that the electrical connections were earlier cut off due to power theft and non-payment of bills. “These are domestic, agricultural as well as commercial connections,” Patel said. The state government has decided to restore electricity connectivity in rural areas on payment of just Rs.500 out of the entire pending amount of the electricity bill.

Recently, after taking oath as CM of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath had also announced of waiving of farmers’ loan with an upper limit of Rs.2 lakh. The newly elected Chief Minister of Chattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel has also announced the farm loan waiver in the state.
