Taking a jibe at the recent announcement by the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of giving pensions to Hindu sadhus, Samajwadi President Akhilesh Yadav said that even Ramlila artists should be provided a pension.

“Pension should also be provided to artists who play the roles of Ram, Seeta and Lakshaman and even Ravan”, Yadav said. He said that the saints should be provided a pension of at least Rs 20,000. Yadav was addressing the media in the party headquarters when he reacted to the announcement of pension to sadhus. He attacked the Yogi government of discontinuing similar schemes started by the Samajwadi government.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath announced that pension will be provided to sadhus in the state under the state pension scheme for senior citizens. The pension for destitute persons has also been increased from Rs 400 per month to Rs 500 per month. p
