Chowdhury has stated that she was not there when Vijay Shanti made those comments but if it is true, its regrettable and she is sorry for it. She added that it is not the kind of language that should be used for a PM even if we do not like him.

Actress turned Congress leader Vijaya Shanti, had said recently in a rally in Shamshabad, Telangana, “Everyone is scared that at what moment Modi will shoot the bomb. He looks like a terrorist. Instead of loving people, he is scaring people. It’s not the way how a PM should be,”

Vijaya Shanti had made the statement in the presence of Congress president Rahul Gandhi. Her statement equating the PM of the nation to a terrorist was highly criticised and condemned by several people on social media.

Many Congress leaders have been found using derogatory and cheap remarks against PM Modi. Recently, Congress leader Belur Gopalakrishna had called for the PM’s assassination. Last year, Shashi Tharoor had equated PM Modi to a “scorpion sitting on a Shivling”. Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar had called him a “Neech Insan”. Sanjay Nirupam had referred to PM Modi as ‘illiterate and uncouth’.

Though Renuka Chowdhury has made the remarks on 10 March, after senior Congress leader Tom Vadakkan joined BJP yesterday, there were some rumors circulating on social media about Renuka joining the BJP too. On top of Sheila Dixit’s reported remark stating that PM Modi is tougher on terrorists than Manmohan Singh was, Renuka’s comments are sure to fan the rumors of her joining the saffron party.

It is notable here that Renuka Chowdhury had hogged the limelight last year when her maniacal laugh inside the parliament was rebuked by the Vice President. PM Modi had taken a jibe on that laugh and had indirectly compared the laughter to that of Surpanakha from Ramayana.
