As the Lok Sabha elections 2019 are approaching, many deflated politicians, mostly from the Congress party are jumping the ship to ward themselves off from an ignominious defeat. Latest to join the list are senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor’s relatives.

On Thursday, one of the most vocal Congress leader Tom Vadakkam’s decision to leave Congress and join BJP left everyone surprised. Today, MP Shashi Tharoor’s relatives joined BJP. According to the reports, Shashi Tharoor’s aunt, Shobhana Shashikumar and her husband Shashikumar have joined the BJP in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala’s capital. On Friday, 14 people including Shashi Tharoor’s aunt and her husband accepted the BJP’s membership. Kerala BJP President PS Sreedharan Pillai was present at the event to welcome the new party members.

Sobhana Shashikumar and her husband Shashikumar said that for a long time, they were following the ideology of Bharatiya Janata Party. He said that he will be happy working for BJP.

There are 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP did not win a single seat in the state. The UPA got 12 seats, with 38 percent votes in the last Lok Sabha elections in Kerala. Though the BJP did not get any seat, it got 10 percent votes. This time, BJP is hoping to improve its performance in Kerala.
