Madhya Pradesh: Congress leader Mohammed Saghir accused of rape, case registered in Bhopal

A complaint has been filed against Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Bhopal Municipal Corporation Mohammed Saghir on the basis of a complaint by a woman who has accused him of rape. A complaint has been filed under section 376 (Punishment for rape) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Saghir had earlier issued a notice to the mayor Alok Sharma for calling him ‘mentally sick’ and offering to bear the expense of his treatment.

This is not the first time Congress leader has been accused of rape. In October 2018, former Kerala Chief Minister from Congress named as accused in a rape case. Prior to that, in February 2018, a Congress MLA was booked for rape and abduction of a journalism student.

More details are currently awaited on the case pertaining to allegations of rape against Mohammed Saghir.
