In what can be seen as one of the biggest crossovers, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s closest aide Tom Vadakkan joins the BJP. Stating that he has been hurt by Congress’ stand on Pulwama he said that he has been disenchanted by the party which questioned the integrity of armed forces. “Narratives to win elections is one thing. A narrative that encompasses the country – that brings the world’s attention to this country is more important to me than elections,” he added.
He said that there is a ‘use and throw’ policy in Congress and that there are multiple power centres within the party which is unfair to the loyal party workers. “You know what happened and what didn’t happen. There isn’t a person in the journalistic world who doesn’t know what’s going on in the Congress party,” he said.
The grand old party has been struggling not only for its relevance but also to keep its flock together. Yesterday, senior Maharashtra Congress leader quit the party to join the BJP. This came a day after Sujay Vikhe Patil, son of Congress Leader of Opposition in Maharastra assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil joined the BJP. In Gujarat, too, as many as four sitting MLAs of Congress have jumped the ship to join the BJP ahead of Lok Sabha elections.
