Congress leader Hardik Patel

Hardik Patel, the Patidar leader who cannot fight the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections because the court has refused to vacate his conviction in a case of rioting made a shameful and racist comment when giving a soundbyte to the Media after casting his vote today.

Hardik Patel said that if he wants to look for a ‘Chowkidaar’, he will go to Nepal and instead, he wants a Prime Minister who can strengthen the economy of the country, education and work for the youth and armed forces.

He reiterated at the end of his statement that he doesn’t want a ‘chowkidaar’ but a Prime Minister for the nation. Hardik Patel made this racist statement against Gorkhas and Nepalis after casting his vote in Viramgam in Gujarat.

It is not the first time that the ‘Chowkidar’ remark has been used as a racist slur by Indian politicians just because they are opposed to PM Modi. Earlier, AAP MLA Alka Lamba had used the word as a slur against citizens of Nepal. Congress leader and Pakistan supporter Navjot Sidhu has also used the ‘Chowkidar’ word to racially stereotype the people of Nepal.

Hardik Patel cannot contest in the 2019 elections because he has been convicted and sentenced to 2 years in prison by the High Court in a case of rioting and arson in Visnagar town in 2015. The high court in August 2018 suspended the sentence of 2 years in prison but not the conviction.

Recently, the convicted felon had joined the Congress party whose President, Rahul Gandhi, is himself out-on-bail. Gujarat Congress official website had welcomed Hardik to the party by displaying an image from Hardik’s infamous sex tape.

Hardik Patel was earlier welcomed with eggs and sandals in Madhya Pradesh and recently, a man had walked up to the stage during his Gujarat rally and planted a slap on him while he was delivering a speech at a public rally.
