The infamous JKLF chief Yasin Malik who was arrested following the crackdown against the anti-India and secessionist elements in the Valley in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack has been remanded for 12 days custody to the NIA. Malik was produced before the Delhi court in a case related to terror funding.
Yasin Malik was shifted to Delhi’s Tihar Jail on Tuesday after the NIA secured his production remand in connection with the terror funding case. Malik was booked under Public Safety Act(PSA) last month and shifted to Jammu’s Kot Balwal jail. He will now be facing questions from the NIA in connection with the terror funding cases. The Jammu and Kashmir court has reserved its statement on the CBI’s petition of reopening a three-decade-old case in which Malik is accused.
Malik is also accused of kidnapping former Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammed Saeed’s daughter Rubiya Saeed in 1989 and of killing 5 IAF personnel in early 1990.
The NIA investigation attempts to identify other key players in the nexus of the terror funding, stone-pelting at the forces and vandalisation of government institutes. The case also includes Lashkar-e-Toiba chief Hafeez Saeed as an accused. Besides, it also names Hurriyat leaders such as SAS Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
Yasin Malik’s arrest had drawn sharp statement’s from the politicians of the valley. Earlier, former CM Mehbooba Mufti had spoken against his arrest. Now JKNC’s Farooq Abdullah had openly condemned the decision. Revealing their separatist faces, Abdullah has insinuated that Malik’s incarceration will further encourage unrest in the state.

Recently, Yasin Malik’s JKLF was banned under the UAPA(Unlawful Activities Prevention Act).
