The Wing Commander in an encounter with the intruding Pakistan fighter jets shot down a Pakistan F-16 jet with a missile fired from his MiG-21 Bison. Following which he was forced to eject after his MiG-21 Bison was shot by Pakistan, landing him in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir. He was captured by the Pakistan army and was beaten up, choked and tortured in the first 24 hours of captivity. But Pakistan released and handed him to India after that due to mounting international pressure.
