On Tuesday, a couple was detained in Mumbai’s Nalasopara area by the police after it was alleged that the man who was a Muslim had faked his identity to marry a Hindu girl. The man identified as Imran Bhati reportedly pretended to be a Brahmin Hindu when he sought the hand of Vijay Lakshmi. Vijay Lakshmi’s father had filed a case on May 25th after the couple were found to be missing.

DSP Saurabh Tiwari said, “The arrest is made in connection with a much-discussed issue from Sikar where a Muslim man masqueraded as Brahmin and married a Brahmin girl. A case was registered under IPC section 277/19 and a team was formed to trace and apprehend the man and woman. They were arrested on Tuesday from Mumbai.”

As reported earlier this month, the accused Imran Bhati not only faked his identity but also received a huge dowry following which the couple had gone missing. Vijay Lakshmi’s father had to give him a sum of Rs 11 lakh rupees in cash and another Rs 5 lakh in jewellery.

Imran had introduced himself as Kabir Sharma and had fake relatives to attend his wedding ceremonies. They were married on May 13 after which Vijay Lakshmi was sent to get more dowry from her father. After receiving a large sum, both of them had fled. It’s only after this that Vijay Lakshmi’s father had discovered Imran’s true identity after searching for them in Jaipur. Imran already had a family with a wife and three kids.
