A group of unknown miscreants hurled bombs and fired bullets at the residence of BJP Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh in West Bengal yesterday. The incident took place at around 9:30 PM on Wednesday night in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.
According to the reports, the miscreants hurled two country-made bombs and fired bullets outside Arjun Singh’s residence in North 24 Parganas district. The incident happened at around 9:30 PM when the BJP MP was not at his residence. Reportedly, Arjun Singh is currently in Delhi attending the Parliamentary session.
No injuries or casualties have been reported in the incident. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. In the aftermath of the incident, a huge number of police forces has been deployed outside the residence of the BJP MP Arjun Singh and around the nearby areas as the tension around the district has increased.
Reportedly, prohibitory orders were already in place from July 15 in the areas of North 24 Parganas district. The orders were issued after the police had recovered some crude bombs in West Bengal’s Kankinara.
The Bhatpara-Kankinara region in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district has been witnessing several incidents of violence since the last few weeks. A maternity home in the area was ransacked recently. Many families were allegedly forced to flee the area fearing for their lives.
The Police had also recovered 50 crude bombs from an abandoned railways housing complex in the area. Train services were disrupted by locals in the Barrackpore-Naihati division of Eastern Railway (ER) as a mark of protest against the disturbances. Prohibitory orders were also issued under Section 144 were imposed in Kankinara and Bhatpara area.
