Discontentment within senior Congress party ranks has started surfacing after a group of state leaders from Madhya Pradesh came out to demand that Jyotiraditya Scindia be made the president of Madhya Pradesh unit. The Scindia camp has threatened to resign en masse if their demand is not fulfilled.
Following the resignation of Chief Minister (CM) Kamal Nath as the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president, the post remains vacant.
Despite losing his home seat of Guna in the Lok Sabha elections this year, Scindia continues to command a large following of supporters within the party. His supporters have issued a statement saying if Scindia is not made the state unit chief, they would tender mass resignations.
“The party workers who have threatened to resign have the right to put forward their thoughts within the party. Under the same rights, I would also like to say that Scindia ji should be made the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee chief by the high command. We request Sonia ji and Rahul ji to do the same. If this is not done, then I, along with other senior office bearers in the state, will tender our resignations,” a Congress leader stated.
“If Jyotiraditya Scindia is kept away from state politics then I, along with 500 others, will resign from the party,” Congress leader Ashok Dangi from Datia said in a press note.

According to a News18 report, even though Scindia declined to comment on the issue, reports have come out that he has issued an ‘ultimatum’ to the party’s central leadership that he should be made the head of the state unit or else he may have to pursue other options, an indication that he himself may leave the party.
Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath who is in Delhi for a meeting with Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi today denied any trouble with Scindia amid reports of a tussle over who will lead the Congress in the state. “I don’t think Jyotiraditya Scindia is unhappy,” the CM told reporters after his meeting with Gandhi at her home.
