Politicians may be great actors, but the reverse may not necessarily be true. Legendary film actor and Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan was caught laughing while protesting for the justice for Unnao rape victim who is fighting for life after she met with an accident this Sunday.

Samajwadi Party leaders had gathered near the Mahatma Gandhi statue at the Parliament house on Tuesday where the SP leaders appear to be out on a picnic instead of protesting against allegations of murder and criminal conspiracy against the accused. The accused, suspended BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, interestingly, is their former colleague, since he was with Samajwadi Party before joining BJP prior to the 2018 elections.

As a Twitter user shared, moments after the photo opportunity came up, Bachchan had suddenly stopped smiling and was appearing all serious and angry while posing for the picture with a placard.

Twitter users also took a dig at how the actress brought out the politician within her when the cameras were on.

Her former colleague ex-Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh too took to Twitter to call out her hypocrisy and selective outrage. Singh, who was once believed to be a close family friend of the Bachchans, said that Jaya Bachchan was being selective in standing up for women victims.

He said that Bachchan spoke up for the Unnao rape victim, but kept mum when BJP MP Rama Devi was on the receiving end of sexist and misogynist remarks by an SP leader and her colleague Azam Khan last week. Referring to her as his ‘old friend’, Singh said that she would cry for women if the woman is Nirbhaya or the Unnao rape victim. “She will stay quiet if the woman is Rama Devi because she is associated with the BJP. She will be quiet if the woman is Jaya Prada, who has even worked with her husband Amitabh Bachchan. Because they are with the BJP. And Azam Khan speaks about her undergarments but she will still keep quiet. After all, Samajwadi Party sent her to Rajya Sabha. She has been showered with the power. Not once, not twice but three times. For the power given to me, I will keep quiet. If I have to attack the BJP, I will not keep quiet,” he said.

Former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar is the primary accused in the 2017 high profile rape case. The case pertains to how the victim was lured and raped by a host of people, including the BJP MLA and how co-ordinated and meticulous schemes were hatched to silent the victim and intimidate her relatives by framing them in police cases based on flippant charges.

On Sunday, the victim of the Unnao rape case was travelling to Rae Bareli with her two aunts, and her lawyer Mahendra Singh when their vehicle was hit by a truck, rendering them critically injured. The vehicle collided with a truck going in the opposite direction towards Lalganj in UP. The victim is now battling for her life.
